Ask what the assessment measures
Find out whether the test uses prose, customer replies, numeric records, or application-specific forms. Ask whether corrections are allowed and whether the score is gross WPM, net WPM, accuracy, or KPH.
If details are unavailable, practice a balanced set: 60-second prose, three-minute sustained typing, accuracy work, and realistic fictional records.
Match the work pattern
Administrative work often mixes names, dates, agendas, and short messages. Support work emphasizes clear sentences and punctuation. Data-entry roles may prioritize exact IDs, quantities, decimals, and field navigation.
Code or technical roles add brackets, operators, indentation, and language-specific keywords. A prose score cannot fully predict that performance.
Treat practice scores honestly
Use the same device and duration when comparing progress. Do not present a self-administered browser certificate as accredited or proctored evidence.
On assessment day, prioritize instructions, accuracy, and calm rhythm. A controlled result is more useful than an early sprint followed by correction-heavy fatigue.
